The Lousiana Lafayette Game

Last Thursday night, we took on conference rival Lousiana-Lafayette in another thriller. It was perfect football weather...nice & chilly...much better than the sogginess of our last game. It was a Thursday night, so we were one of two nationally televised games. Both teams really needed this win in the quest for bowl eligibility...perfect setting for an epic night!

I'll spare you all of the game details & just say that the Jaguars stepped up bigtime & got the win, defeating the Ragin' Cajuns 32-25 & improving to 5-4 on the season!

I think Tanner is the first kid out on the field every single week. Terrance Timmons is one of the runningbacks & Tanner's FAVORITE Jag. He talks about him ALL THE TIME & loves to hang out with him. Terrance is very sweet to always take time w/ Tanner; makes his day. They got right together, the headed to the locker room...

After the game we got to visit w/ a special friend. Charlie Harbison, affectionately known as "Coach Cheese," coached at Bama when Tim played there & again when Tim worked there. He's worked at several other schools & is currently the co-DC & coaching OLBs at ULL. Tim's seen him during recruiting & other coaching stuff, but I haven't seen him in a few years & he had not met our youngest kids. It was SO GREAT catching up with Cheese!!

Another great night of football!! We will head to Georgia the next 2 Saturdays to take on Georgia State, then Georgia Southern, before finishing our regular season at home versus App State. We're gearing up for some great road wins!! Go Jags!!!

Middleton Farms Trip

Tanner had his first kindergarten field trip last Tuesday -- to the farm! My sweet grandparents were down for a visit & had agreed to stay an extra day to watch Kallie so that I could go with Tanner on this trip. We went to a dairy farm about 20 minutes away, right across the state line in Mississippi. It was a fun day with my youngest son...

We talked & laughed & looked at toy magazines (getting ready for Christmas) on the bus ride. We also took selfies! :)

We sat in the "stands" & watched Daisy the cow get milked. On this farm, 250 cows must be milked twice a day, so they use machines instead of doing it by hand. 

Then we took a hayride.

We got to see the cows close up.

Mrs. Burkett got to pick a pumpkin to take back to the classroom. The kids helped her pick one out.

We got off the hayride & checked out the pumpkin patch.

Next we headed over to the fun playground. They have some cool equipment, very kid friendly.

We did a little shopping in the farm store - Tanner bought a couple things for himself & something for each of his siblings...very thoughtful.  Then one of the farmers taught us about cow parts & calves.

Those baby cows sure were hungry, so the kids got to feed them milk from a big bottle. Tanner was a little reluctant at first, but ended up taking a turn!

Mrs. Burkett fed a calf, then showed students the difference in their heights versus a cow's.

After the feedings, there were 2 activities left. Boys & girls planted sunflower seeds in small pots. The little pots will go back to the classroom, where students will continue to water them & watch them grow. Tanner was a little upset here because someone was not in the right spot & made him scoot down...

Last, they used cream, salt, & some vigorous shaking to make butter! One of the helpers spread it on crackers for a taste test. Guess what Tanner thought...

I learned a lot on this trip to the farm. Most importantly, I got to spend some quality time with my Tanner!
