Spring Break 2012

Last week was Spring Break & the Bowens Bunch was definitely ready for a break!!!

We started the week with Tim's Hall of Fame Induction (see that post for pics & details), then spent a few days in North Alabama visiting our fam.  Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics there.  Guess I was really enjoying a break - from everything!! :)

We headed back to B'ham mid-week for the rest of our "stay-cation" & had quite a productive week . . .

Can you believe I had to do homework?!?

(Being a student is tough!! I got a finance paper written & started my budget project. Whew!!) 

I did LOTS of this . . .

(I finished The Hunger Games, which was incredible!! I'm starting the 2nd book soon!)

(So healthy!)

(We found one that's promising.

I'll update this process in a later post!)

Since our week was so productive, we now need another to recuperate & actually get some rest!!

But, it's back to work & school for the Bowens Bunch.

9 weeks, then SUMMERTIME!! WOO HOO!!!

Sports Hall of Fame

My incredibly talented husband was inducted into the Lauderdale County Sports Hall of Fame this past Saturday night.  There was a banquet to honor him & the other 9 inductees.  He was joined by countless family members & friends who are so proud of & for him!

Final Market Day

Our final Market Day of the year was Friday!
There were lots of spring, St. Patrick's Day, & Easter items.
Taylor decided to sell spiffy, spring sunglasses.
His slogan was "Look Hot" & "Stay Cool" & he is of course quite the slick, little salesman.
He ended up selling out of his merchandise, again! :)

Showcase 2012

The Homewood City Schools Foundation, a tremendous support to our schools, hosts Showcase each March.  This is a very special event that showcases the unique talents & achievements of our students, our teachers, & our schools. 

This year there were performances, activities, & a special presentation from the Foundation to all 5 schools - donated iPads for every teacher/classroom!

Timothy is an Edgewood Ambassador & the Ambassadors had a booth at the event.
The kids worked 30 minute shifts & were available, along with the sponsor Mrs. Wolfe (our school counselor), to talk about what it means to be a part of the Edgewood Elementary Ambassador Program.

Timothy did an excellent job (& looked great!) while on post.

All 5 of us were there & really enjoyed the many things at the event.

His daddy was happy to let him run off some energy . . . which paid off later on when he went straight to bed & slept soundly all night!

We are so blessed to be part of a tremendous school system & be recipients of such extraordinary support from our community!!

Living Museum

One of my favorite projects in 2nd grade is our Biography Project.
The kids choose someone who has made a difference in our world & research them.
They go through several steps, including choosing a book, filling in an outline, writing a rough draft, typing a final draft, & assembling a costume, to complete the entire project.

The project culminates in a "Living Museum" where students appear as wax figures & visitors can step on a little square in front of them to make them come to life. 
They give a few short sentences on who they are & how they made a difference.
1st graders, parents, teachers, & 2nd graders' siblings all have the opportunity to visit our museum.
2nd graders always step up to the plate & do an awesome job!

My own 2nd grader researched Jackie Robinson.
He did a fabulous job throughout the project & was great at the Living Museum.
He was in character the entire morning!!
I enjoyed listening to him.  So did his big brother, although he would NEVER admit it! :)

3 years ago, when Timothy did this same project in 2nd grade, he was George Washington Carver.
